Located in the Rosewood Park Civic Center, this Community Center is anchored by the Brenda Villa Aquatic Center which contains a state-of-the-art 35-meter swimming pool, designed to accommodate international swimming and water polo events. A smaller, warm water pool in the same room provides warmup space for competitions and an exercise facility for senior citizens and children. Adjacent to the building, a pool for tiny tots completes the Aquatic Center.
An atrium serves as the central circulation spine for the Community Center, while connecting with different areas of the park. On its south side, a two-story building provides a cable television studio on the second floor with community meeting rooms, associated cooking facilities, and daycare spaces at the first floor. The Aquatic Center is on the north side of the atrium which provides access at the second floor to spectator seating and weight rooms - these spaces look out over the pools and atrium. Locker rooms are located below at the first floor. Stairs of concrete “lattice work” project into gardens at each end of the atrium.
Along with the creation of the Community Center, new and expanded outdoor recreation facilities were built in the park. A dedicated playground for preschool children was created. Basketball courts were sunken into the ground, with terraced concrete seating at their sides to become “courts” for events beyond basketball and volleyball. Outdoor bathrooms were housed below earth berms which provide for viewing games and children’s play.
